Animas High School Heritage Project
In conjunction with the Durango Heritage Celebration, 9th graders at Animas High School have studied and researched Durango, past and present, through the lens of sociology. The students have studied social norms, the often unspoken rules for behavior, and identity formation, the ways in which gender, race, class, ability, etc. affect how we see the world, in 19th century Durango and its modern counterpart. Students have then imagined that they were travelers from the 19th century, culminating in writing a magazine about the social norms they observe in today’s world or creating another visual project to express their knowledge.
These projects will be displayed for viewing during our Opening Night Reception at the historic Strater Hotel. Students will be present to describe their projects and to answer questions. No charge.
